St Colms — Edwardian character beside the West Links

Overlooking the 16th green of North Berwick’s famous West Links, St Colms gives you a remarkable setting for a holiday by the sea. Beyond the walled garden, the golf course opens towards the Firth of Forth, with direct access from the garden to both the course and the beach.

This is a grand Edwardian house with the character and familiarity of a well-used family home. Art, distinctive wallpaper and sculptures add personality to its generous rooms, giving you the sense of staying somewhere with a life and story of its own. Original features and wonderful views sit alongside the wear that comes with a much-loved house. If you prefer an immaculate, pristine holiday rental, St Colms is unlikely to be the right choice.

The main house accommodates up to nine guests across five bedrooms, making it a welcoming base for a family gathering, a golfing holiday or corporate entertaining. You can settle into the oak-panelled hall beside the open fireplace, spend time together in the family sitting room, or gather around the dining table, which seats up to 16 and opens onto the terrace and garden.

Upstairs, the Edwardian drawing room is a particular pleasure: original features frame views across the garden, the links and the Firth of Forth. Outside, roses and lavender fill the large walled garden, with the beach close at hand whenever you feel like a walk along the shore.

Your stay is self-catering, with linen and towels included. Housekeeping and the services of a local chef or cook can be arranged at an additional cost.

Ground floor

• Large oak-panelled reception hall with an open fireplace and window seat.

• Comfortable family sitting room with a television and views over the terrace and garden.

• Family dining room seating up to 16, with a door onto the terrace and garden.

• Bedroom 1: Single bedroom with an adjoining shower room.

First floor

A grand staircase leads from the reception hall to the first-floor landing and the Edwardian drawing room.

• Bedroom 2: Super king bedroom with views of the sea, garden and golf course, and an en-suite bathroom with sea views.

• Bedroom 3: Super king bedroom with views of the sea, garden and golf course, and an en-suite shower room.

• Bedrooms 4 and 5: Two twin bedrooms sharing a bathroom with a large bath and no shower.

Optional second-floor attic accommodation

The attic accommodation can only be booked together with the main house. The rooms are smaller, reflecting their position within the attic, and are heated by storage heaters.

Access is through a door from the main house, followed by a staircase to the upper level. This staircase is within a large entrance area shared with the Havana Apartment.

• Bedroom 8: Two single beds and one child’s single bed.

• A shared shower room serves the attic bedrooms.

The main house and attic accommodation together accommodate a maximum of 14 guests, regardless of the number of beds available.

The Havana Apartment is also available to rent separately and can accommodate a further six guests.
